WHAT I LEARNED:

  • shot lists make everything easier
  • tell actors who aren't in the shot to shut up or to go somewhere else
  • to not use shots with a small difference (2 steps minimum)
  • as a director need to give clear instructions
  • using shadows to advantage (shadow on my face in video)
  • using manual focus
  • doing 'rushes'

Vodcasting techniques

  • Try to not rely on mac mic
  • Stack mic recordings to add dynamic depth
  • Take notes to footage assembled
    • make folders and drag and drop from finder into event and every folder becomes tag
    • Favourites
  • You don't have to be formal - crack jokes but make sure content
  • Relevant visual material
  • Add titles to simplify what is being said verbally
  • Chapters
  • Give clear credit
  • Edit and tweak titles

Learning from past students

    • Cutaway shot
  • post-production sound
  • cross-cutting - waxed 3-way: kettle, tanning booth, eyes
  • use video and audio, don't use speech - i do love battin use mise en scene instead
  • Fine to rip off sound
  • Use or challenge conventions - nowadays more accepting

...

  • health and safety checks
  • signifying sex without showing it
  • red run inspired from childs play
